June 2008: Plant growth.

The cantaloupes, which I planted as store-bought transplants (not as seeds), went crazy. That's a pepper in the middle.
This picture makes the corn look pretty good, and as plants goes, it did alright. The fruit was all that was lacking.
Look at this gorgeous tomatillo plant.

Green beans:

A pepper plant -- I think this was an anaheim . . .

I almost forgot to show a picture of my herbs, most of which I planted (in these pots) in April. Here are several: oregano, thyme, chives, rosemary, parsley, and a couple others. I've added to my collection and have since transplanted them to a permanent herb bed here in front of our living room windows.

Nascent watermelon plant. . .

A few healthy cucumber plants . . .

Tomatoes, which had been ransacked by birds (and thirsty squirrels too, I think), so Jenny took some of the gauzy material that was stuffing under her wedding dress and wrapped the cages to prevent them from foraging at ground level. Eventually, when the birds learned to balance on the wires, we had to cover the entire plant.

Carrots next to a bell pepper plant.

Herbs through the tomatillo leaves.
